Audioholics measured clean output to 20 Hz from a cabinet just over a foot on a side, and the app gives you parametric EQ, crossover, phase, and polarity from the couch. Sealed alignment keeps group delay low, which is why it sounds tighter on music than ported subs at this price. Two of these usually beat one bigger sub in a small room.

Watch out: Output below 30 Hz runs out in large or open rooms; step up to the PB-2000 Pro for anything over about 3,000 cubic feet.

Audioholics measured nearly twice the output of the PB-1000 Pro around 30 Hz, the region where film effects carry most of their energy, and extension into the mid teens in the standard tuning. Port tuning modes let you trade extension for output if the room is small. It is the sub that makes a medium living room feel like a theater without moving to flagship size.

Watch out: The cabinet is nearly two feet deep and 65 lb, so measure the corner before ordering.

3. Mid-range · Medium rooms that want ported output and a listing shipped by Amazon

HomeTheaterReview found the ES12 handled music and movies with equal composure and called it an excellent value under 700 USD, singling out the 32-bit DSP and the way the dual Power Ports suppress chuffing at high output. The published -3 dB point of 22 Hz is honest for a 300 W ported 12 in, and the narrow 14.3 in cabinet fits where a PB-2000 Pro will not. It is one of the few mid-priced 12 in subs that Amazon itself stocks and ships.

Watch out: The Amazon price has been running above Polk's 599 list, and there is no app or parametric EQ, so room modes have to be handled by the receiver.

4. Mid-range · Small and medium rooms that want tight sealed bass in a compact, furniture-friendly box

A sealed 12 in with 300 W in a 16 in cube gives the low group delay of the SVS SB-1000 Pro with KEF's DSP doing the placement compensation, and the Soundnews review found bass that started and stopped with the music with no smear as the level rose. The three-position room EQ is the practical feature: pick Room, Wall, or Corner and the sub adjusts its own response instead of leaving that to the receiver. It is also the only sealed 12 in in this group with speaker-level inputs, which matters for two-channel systems without a sub out.

Watch out: The 22 Hz spec is +/-3 dB but the sealed box gives up real output below 25 Hz to the ported picks, and the Amazon listing is a third-party dealer with only a couple in stock.

5. Premium · Large rooms and dedicated theaters

The 2026 R|Evolution refresh borrows the driver and amplifier architecture from the 17-Ultra flagship, with 1,200 W continuous and rated extension to 15 Hz. A 6-band parametric EQ in the app handles room modes that the receiver's correction cannot. For a large open room or a dedicated theater it is the point where one sub finally has real headroom.

Watch out: About 85 lb and two feet deep, and the AVS Forum review was paywalled at research time, so verify the verdict before leaning on it.
