Pick the Onkyo TX-RZ50 if
- You want Dirac Live and do not want to pay for a license on top of the receiver.
- Your room is difficult and bass and imaging correction matter more than a newer chassis.

Pick the Denon AVR-X3900H if
- You run three or four subwoofers and want each on its own output with independent level and delay.
- You want a 2026 platform with years of firmware support ahead of it.

Verdict
Buy the Onkyo TX-RZ50 if Dirac Live is the point; it is the cheapest route to full-bandwidth Dirac with nine channels, and Audioholics and AVS Forum both rated it one of the best values in its class. Buy the Denon AVR-X3900H for a new build that will run multiple subs and needs a current platform, and budget for Dirac later if XT32 is not enough. The exception is a 4 ohm speaker set, where the Onkyo's documented output limiting at high volume tips it to the Denon.
