Pick the Hisense U7SG 65-inch if
- You sit within about 9 feet and 65 inches is the right size for the wall.
- You want the best value Mini-LED and would rather fund speakers and a sub.

Pick the TCL QM8L 85-inch if
- You want a giant screen without a projector and a dark room.
- You watch sports and HDR movies with family from wide angles.

Verdict
Buy the Hisense U7SG if 65 inches fits the room; it does most of what the QM8L does at a fraction of the price. Buy the TCL QM8L when the seat is 10 feet or more away and you want the biggest, brightest picture short of a projector. The exception is a dedicated dark room, where neither is the right answer and an OLED wins.

- On paper both are in the 2,000+ nit class. The QM8L holds brightness better across the screen and has far finer dimming control.
- Does the U7SG come in 85 inches?
- Hisense sells the U7SG in larger sizes, but the 85-inch QM8L is a higher tier of panel and dimming, not just a bigger U7SG.
- Which has better viewing angles?
- The QM8L uses a wide-angle panel. The U7SG loses some contrast off-axis, as most VA-type Mini-LEDs do.
