Mini-LED
An LCD backlight built from thousands of tiny LEDs, allowing far more local dimming zones and higher peak brightness than standard full-array sets.
Mini-LED is still an LCD technology; what changes is the backlight. Instead of a few hundred LEDs, the panel is lit by thousands of LEDs a fraction of a millimeter across, grouped into many more independently controlled dimming zones.
More zones mean tighter control of where light goes, which reduces blooming and lets highlights sit next to deep shadows. The design also delivers very high full-screen brightness, so it suits bright rooms and daytime sports.
Typical sets carry several hundred to a few thousand zones, and peak brightness of 1,500 nits or more is common. It still cannot match a per-pixel emissive display for pure black or off-axis contrast, so the choice usually comes down to room brightness and seating spread.
