Room correction
Automated measurement and equalization built into receivers that adjusts speaker levels, delays, and frequency response to compensate for the room.
Room correction systems use a supplied microphone to play test tones from each speaker at several seats. From the recordings they set channel levels and distances, suggest crossovers, and generate equalization filters that flatten the response at the listening area.
Every room adds peaks and dips, especially in the bass where modes dominate, and speaker distances differ by channel. Correction handles level and time alignment reliably and can tame bass peaks that placement cannot. It works best as a finishing step on a treated room.
Measure at 6 to 8 positions within about 2 feet of the main seat, mic at ear height on a tripod, room quiet. Afterward, check speaker size and crossover settings by hand; systems often set speakers to large or pick crossovers far from 80 Hz.
