How we got these numbers
A 77-inch 16:9 TV measures about 67.1 by 37.8 inches. The reference mounting position puts the center of that panel at your seated eye height, which for most sofas is 40 to 44 inches. We use 42 inches as the default and show other eye heights in the table.
From there the bottom edge is simply eye height minus half the panel height: 42 − 18.9 = 23.1 inches. If the TV has to go higher, the number that matters is the elevation angle from your seat. Under 10° is comfortable for long sessions; 15° is the practical limit, and it needs a tilting mount.
The bracket height depends on your specific TV: measure from its bottom edge to the center of the VESA holes and add that to the bottom-edge height above.
